Round and Round She Goes…

So Go-karting was super cool. we went to Formula Kartways in brampton for some indoor go-karting action on sunday. There were 11 of us in total. I must say that Andy has an edge here. Since he only weighs 98 lbs soaking wet, fully clothed, he kicked my ass by like a second per lap... it was disgusting. I think he needs to get a weight penalty for next race.. make it even.

[That's me in the Yellow Kart]

Anyway, so combine 11 VW enthusiasts, and indoor go-kart track, some caffeen, the fact that it's the end of Feb. and everyones 'summer' cars are in storage – you'd get some pretty competitive driving. And we did, there was bumpin', grinding, smashin' and crashin' the entire time. I'll have to get some practice before our next session...

The track is literally a smooth concrete warehouse floor, with tire barriers and all for some protection. Combine that with a racing go-kart and slick tires, you get some pretty cool drifts. For those out of the know, a drift is where you slide the car sideways through a corner (hang the ass-end out). It's quite fun and, with practice, can be really cool! The second round of laps we did, I didn't touch the brake the whole time!

So here's yours truly (Yellow Kart) folllowing one of our VW guys. I caught up to him by the next lap, but we ended just before I could pass him...

I think Andy and I are going to take Dad here for his birthday. I'm worried that the fumes may give him a headache though. Andy said he had a small one after we left, but I didn't feel anything.

Till next time....

Can't Stop The Rock

Lacrosse is where it's at. Jeannette and I have had season tickets to the Toronto Rock lacrosse club for the last 3 or 4 years now. If you've never watched lacrosse, check out Rogers Sportsnet (ususally friday/saturday games) schedule and watch a game. Def. the best sports deal in town. Much faster pace than baseball or basketball, cheaper by far than a leafs game.

I'm just blown away by the fact that the ACC gets lie 16,000+ fans for a Rock game, and the rest of the league averages like half that.

We had tickets to the All Star game on saturday. Watching the best players from the league whoop it up in front of the crowd, showing off and making some spectacular plays was awesome. I think it was the second most exciting game I've seen – the first being the championship game from last year.

The thing that bugs me is the Rock get very little press... They are the winnigest franchise in toronto in the last number of years (5 championships in 6 or 7 years in the league), but I guess because these guys are not "pros" in the sense that they have other jobs (one of the defense for the Rock is a Durham Region ETF cop, many are teachers too) and are not owned my Maple Leaf Sports and Entertainment they are not as important?? It's crap if you ask me.
At least you won't have to give up your arm, a leg and your first born to get Rock tickets like you would to get GOOD leaf tickets.
-end rant.

Andy and I are going gokarting with some of the Guys from The Pocket Rocket volkswagen group. should be fun! I'll keep you posted.

later.
